Dunster is a picturesque village located on the fringes of Exmoor. Characterised by thatched cottages, a unique octagonal yarn market and the imposing Dunster Castle. Once a thriving trading port on the coast, Dunster was left high and dry when the sea retreated, cutting off their access to the coast. The textile industry kept the town prosperous for many years, with a special type of yarn, Dunster, being accredited to local spinners in a way that made it stronger and more durable than anything else at the time. With the sea receeding, there was more useful land available for agriculture too, and many of the farms still operational around Dunster can trace their history back to those times.
